Prepared: 1830utc Sat, May 10, 2008

Summary: Conditions should continue to settle down for the next 36 hours

although it may become

a bit squally around the Fiji islands on Tuesday

1) the storm NE of New Zealand has drifted eastward to near 35s 178w with a

new center forming to the ESE

 a) this has allowed winds and seas to diminish somewhat

 b) and this trend should continue tomorrow

2) Large high pressure over SE Australia will shift very slowly NE, not

building strongly in behind the departing low

3) Satellite imagery shows the band of frontal cloudiness across Fiji at

this time, nearly stalled in its northward progress

 a) image loops show a developing impulse moving ESE along the frontal band

S of the Solomons and W of Vanuatu

 b) computer models bring this impulse across Fiji on the 13th, likely with

increasing squally conditions and winds becoming SE and possibly gusting to

30-35 kts

4) After this passes, SE winds should settle back into the teens on the 14th

5) SW seas are decreasing through the 10-15 ft range today and will continue

to subside to 6-9 ft by Tue

Routing:

1) should now be able to head on a NNE course toward Savusavu as winds and

seas ease
