Route: Opua, NZ to Savusavu, Fiji

Position: 30 43S/174 53E. 1800utc Wed, May 7, 2008

Prepared: 1900utc Wed, May 7, 2008

Summary:

1) satellite shows one low pressure area that is spiraling to the S of the

Chatham Islands, slowly moving off to the E

 a) which will allow the complex surface and upper level low pressure areas

that are approaching NZ from the W to continue to slide off to the E

 b) in addition, a "tropical" low is still forecast to be pulled S from the

Fiji area to be wrapped into the approaching low/cold front centered near

39S/170E by 12utc on the 8th

 c) if the position of this low and the cold front (stretching N along

170E) verifies on the 8th, your winds will still be out of the NW and a

little more stable than once the cold front passes and you get into the

blustery and cooler W-SW winds

2) latest timing shows the W-SW winds to move in between 18utc on the

8thand 00utc on the 9

th

 a) expect about 24-36hours of gusts winds and higher seas through 00utc on

the 10th

 b) then easing conditions as you continue N and the low continues E

3) once conditions improve, you should be able to head on a rhumbline toward

Savusavu, probably on the 11th

Routing:

1) recommend continued routing toward the N until the 11th

 a) can then head on a NNE course toward Savusavu as winds and seas ease
